Original architecture writing on Solana's Proof of History and the coordination of distributed computers. His work explains the engineering problem behind the network's performance-oriented design.
Why read Anatoly Yakovenko?
Read Anatoly to understand why Solana's original design puts a verifiable sequence of time before consensus. The whitepaper explains a leader recording events in a sequential hash stream while other computers verify parts of that stream in parallel. It gives you a concrete coordination problem to examine when comparing blockchain architectures.
His Proof of History explainer makes the idea easier to approach through a photograph and a newspaper: one event supplies a bound on when another could have happened. It then shows how references to earlier hashes add bounds to the recorded sequence. Read these as original design documents. Their hardware assumptions and performance discussion belong to their historical context, while the clock and verification questions remain useful.

Solana: A new architecture for a high performance blockchain
Start with the abstract and sections 3–4 of version 0.8.13 for the original ordering and time-verification problem. The paper uses Proof of History alongside a consensus algorithm; its performance model is historical.
