Blackstar

Writes about early NFT projects, the importance of their original timestamps and how historical collecting differs from following new releases.

Why read Blackstar?

Blackstar is a useful starting point for understanding why collectors care about the earliest NFT projects. His January 2022 statement describes collecting works from 2014–2018 as a long-term pursuit. It gives context for the account's interest in provenance and early blockchain artifacts.

His later post on timestamps develops the same idea: new items can be minted, but their creation dates cannot be moved into the past. Relics DAO's own website also lists Blackstar on its council, placing this collecting perspective in a community that supports work on vintage NFTs.
